Youth Programs

What are youth?
Youth are young people between the grades of 7th and 12th grade.

FUMC's youth ministries help our young people learn how to live out lives in humble gratitude to Jesus Christ, who died and rose again so that we can know God personally. Our goal is to provide a loving environment for youth, a safe place where they can explore the love that Christ has for them and how to show that love to people they come into contact within their daily lives.

By gathering to study, worship, build friendships, and serve our community, we live out our mission in a variety of ways and have so much fun serving God! Click on one of the following links to find our more about all the things we do throughout the year: study and worship; fellowship; and discipleship.

STUDY & WORSHIP

Study and worship are important parts of the Christian life. In order to actively  live a more Christ-like lifestyle, we must understand what that means. Gathering in small groups is a tradition that has existed since the time of Jesus. Jesus would take his disciples to upper rooms and hill tops so that he could teach them the things which they needed to know, and on which Christianity is based. This tradition is alive and well at FUMC, as we break our youth into a more uniquely oriented study and worship atmosphere. Here are some of our annual activities:

  • Resurrection—One of the largest gatherings of youth annually in the world located in Gatlinburg, TN
  • Elijah Project—A semester long prayer ministry for youth and adults, ending with a banquet and celebration during Advent season
  • Faith Singers—Senior and Junior High choir
  • Easter Sunrise Service—Youth lead this early morning service
  • Special Youth led worship services
  • Sunday School—Senior and Junior High classes at 9:45am in the Youth Wing
  • UMYF — Senior and Junior High Youth meet on Sunday evenings for snack supper, worship, games, Bible study, and small groups.
  • Wednesday Alive — After supper, we come together for group discussions and fellowship.

FELLOWSHIP

Christian Fellowship is something that is of the utmost importance in the world today. The early church believed greatly in the importance of surrounding yourself with other believers so that you might be supported, loved, and cared for in a safe environment. The People at FUMC wish to provide just such an environment for our youth to hang out and fellowship with one another. We have many different opportunities for fellowship.

  • After School Program — Wednesdays during the school year the Youth meet in the Youth Wing after school to play pool, eat snacks, and hang out. After supper, we come together for group discussions and fellowship.
  • Messy Night
  • Fall Campout
  • Church Lock-ins
  • Cosmic Bowling
  • Tennessee Smokies Baseball game
  • Super Bowl Party
  • Ice-skating, Hikes
  • Girls’ Day Out
  • Guys’ Night Out.

DISCIPLESHIP

Discipleship is the acting out of our faith through our prayers, presence, gifts and services. Part of that is giving back to the community both here around the church and throughout the country. This Youth group has taken on mission and ministry opportunities to better help live out their faith.

  • Safe Space Dinner
  • Appalachian Service Project
  • Youth Works Missions
  • Community Dinners
  • Christmas Caroling
